SLUGradio.org — Welcome!

what is SLUGradio?

In the tradition of The Linux Show, The Linux Link Tech Show, and LUG Radio, SLUGradio is a collection of online recordings by a bunch of folk who like nothing other than sitting down and talking about all sorts of nonsense with a microphone in the middle. Hmmm, that doesn't make us sound too good, does it?

what nonsense do you talk about?

We generally treat the recordings as though they were miniature Linux User Group meetings, which means we do talk about Linux and other geek topics, but we also ramble a bit! The ratio of geek-to-ramble will invariably be weighted towards ramble as the alcohol intake (if any) increases over time.

so it's like radio?

Yes, in that people talk into microphones and you hear the results — it differs rather wildly from traditional wireless radio and the more recent net radio stations in that we just have individual 'shows' to download in MP3, Ogg or Speex audio formats. It's also not like regular public radio in that we tend to swear — sometimes quite strongly, so it's not really suitable for kids. Think of us as sitting somewhere between a 15 and 18 certificate :) However, thanks to the fab types over at the Linux Link Tech Show, there is a 24/7 stream which plays episodes of TLLTS, LUG Radio and SLUGradio in rotation — see the archive page for more details.

so what's SLUG?

It's an abbreviation of ScotLUG, which in itself is an abbreviation of the Scottish Linux User Group, which mainly consists of Glaswegian Linux enthusiasts. More information on ScotLUG can be found at scotlug.org.uk.

hey, I go to ScotLUG, can I join in?

Sure - feel free to ask about SLUGradio at the next meeting, or dive onto our IRC channel at irc.scotlug.org.uk #scotlug

2007-01-24 | Episodes are back online (again)!

Yet again, all the episodes are available for download, again! A mirror snafu has been fixed, and the episodes should be available again. As you may have realised, SLUGradio is pretty much on a permanent hiatus, with episode 5 in a perpetual state of limbo. neuro, one of the SLUGradio team, and fellow ScotLUG member mrben are now part of hashlugradio, a meta-podcast discussing content from that week's LugRadio episode, plus news and events from the LR community. Have a listen!

2006-06-24 | Episodes are back online!

All the episodes are available for download again! Sorry to anyone trying to grab an old episode lately, but all the episodes are online again in Ogg and MP3; Speex files have been removed due to lack of interest.

2004-07-05 | Episode Four is released!

Episode Four is released! I don't know how, but we managed to get an Episode Four together sans neuro and with the dynebolic distro in charge :) Audacity temp file recovery ahoy!

Download Episode Four now in MP3, Ogg or Speex formats.

2004-06-24 | Episode Three is released!

Episode Three is released! Our longest episode yet, with discussions on SCO's bizarre reasons why not to use Linux, a competition for you to win a Gmail account and an unfortunate rendition of a SCO-related version of "American Pie" ...

Download Episode Three now in MP3, Ogg or Speex formats.
